Road Safety Audit - Intersection of Rt 43 and Rt 27

The NH Department of Transportation has now completed the Road Safety Audit (RSA) for two of the more dangerous intersections in Candia. These are two of the three corners of the triangle where NH Routes 27 & 43 traffic intersects.

One of those three corner intersections is the “Four Corners” where the state has installed traffic control signal lights, significantly improving the traffic flow and reducing accidents.

The southerly corner intersection, where NH Route 43 traffic between Manchester and the Deerfield area meets Raymond Road, by the entrance to Holbrook Cemetery, is particularly dangerous. Traffic coming from the Deerfield area has to stop and then merge into the traffic coming from the Raymond area going into Manchester. Traffic coming from the Manchester area and going to the Deerfield area has to make a left turn thru that same traffic flow to continue on Route 43.

The easterly corner intersection, where NH Route 27 going from Candia to Raymond has to stop and enter the traffic going to and from Manchester is the least dangerous of the three, but does a poor job of handling turning traffic.

The RSA, a lengthy and comprehensive exercise, was conducted with representatives of the state, the municipality and potentially affected residents last summer. A draft of the results was reviewed by the participants. These final results will now go to NHDOT for design and future construction by the state.

The report and drawing plans of the proposed improvement options can be viewed at the below links.
