Beware of social security scams!

Social Security scam is hitting the area. Often the caller reports they are a government official and there is a problem with your Social Security number, such as it being used in a drug case in another State. They may say that the US Marshals are involved to try and confuse you and tell you things like your past and current address and where you work; things that they can get online about you. This makes you feel like you’re talking to an official. They may put someone else on the phone in order to help you. They are trying to get your personal information and or money. Please don’t give out any personal information. The Social Security Administration doesn’t call you if there is a problem. If you are not expecting a call, I would be skeptical of anyone calling you. You can report these calls to the Federal Trade Commission who documents these calls.
