CANDIA FIRE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE (Official Press Release)
On June 7, 2025, the Candia Fire Department, along with Auburn Fire, Chester Fire, and Deerfield Fire, conducted a training burn at 364 High Street in Candia. The objective of the training was to provide live fire conditions in a controlled manner.
The training provided 162 hours of training to 27 fire department members. Training included fire extinguishment, search & rescue, ventilation, pumping and drafting, and incident command. The house allowed for eight live burn evolutions before a final fire behavior evolution was conducted, leading to the destruction of the building. These evolutions provide invaluable training to firefighters from around the region.
The fire department follows strict guidelines put forth by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services. When a resident donates their building to the fire department for training purposes, it is assigned to an experienced instructor(s) for coordination. The instructor works with the homeowner to ensure that no hazardous material is present and that asbestos abatement is completed. When the building is deemed safe, it is turned over to the fire department for preparation and training.
We thank the homeowners who have donated these buildings to us in the past. If you own a property that you are demolishing and would like to explore the possibility of the department using it for training purposes, please contact the fire department. If you have any questions regarding the legality of firefighting live burn training, please visit NHDES at https://www.des.nh.gov/home-and-recreation/air-quality/firefighting-training-activities.
The point of contact for this press release is Fire Chief Dean Young, who can be reached at 603-483-2202.
